Program Overview:

Unlock your potential with the LA Tech Rising Internship Program (IT/Cybersecurity & Software Engineering)! This paid internship program offers a dynamic opportunity for young talent aged 18 to 24 to dive into the tech world while learning from experienced professionals in the field. Throughout the program, you’ll participate in interactive workshops covering essential skills, including technical knowledge, effective communication, and self-marketing strategies (personal branding) that will set you apart in the industry. This program focuses on IT/Cybersecurity and Software Engineering. You will have the option to choose between these two pathways, based on which one best aligns with your skills and interests. 

You’ll benefit from personalized 1-on-1 mentorship, where seasoned tech professionals will guide you through your journey, helping you navigate challenges and seize new opportunities. In addition, you’ll engage in mock interviews and applied technical practice designed to enhance your skill set and boost your confidence, ensuring you are well-prepared for the competitive job market.

Program Highlights:

Required Qualifications: 

• Be between the ages of 18 and 24

• Currently reside in Los Angeles

• Available to work part-time for 10-15 hours per week for 12 weeks  

• Select one of two ways to express your interest and commitment: 

  • Submit a prerecorded video (highly preferred) 

  • Submit a short essay response 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some exposure to technical projects or a keen interest in wanting to learn more about technical concepts 

• Experience working in collaborative teams 

• Prior experience in extracurricular activities demonstrating leadership skills and willingness to learn and grow

Program Timeline: 

• Program Start Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2025

• Program End Date: Thursday, May 15, 2025

• Mandatory Virtual Live Sessions: Every Tuesday and Thursday

  • Session Time: 4:00pm-6:30pm

• Mandatory In-Person Scholar Retreat: March 10, 2025

Eligibility Criteria:

  • • Demonstrate a commitment to LA-Tech.org’s mission to advocate for community and tech.
    • LA-Tech.org connects LA’s tech community to talented underrepresented individuals in Los Angeles. We aim to bring the tech community together around common civic goals and to bring economic opportunities to LA’s underserved communities. Our four pillars: educate, mobilize, connect & amplify.

  • • The LA Tech Rising Program only operates in Los Angeles County. Applicants who do not have an Los Angeles-based address will not be eligible for consideration. 

Responsibilities: 

• Create and support a productive and innovative team working with peers, company managers, and teams
• Contribute to internal communications through Slack 
• Complete asynchronous assignments via Google Classroom 

• Remain engaged during all virtual sessions (cameras on) 

Selection Timeline: 

• Applications Open: Wednesday, November 20, 2024 

• Applications Due: January 31, 2025 at 9:00 AM

• Acceptances: No later than February 5, 2025

• Waitlist Acceptances: No later than February 17, 2025
